Scientific Dissemination

Ocean Story Telling

Studying my degree in Tourism Management, my chosen topic was the phenomenology of sports with a focus on marine-based sports including diving. In the process of studying peoples’ experiences in the ocean and their affinity to the marine world, I was quickly captivated by the fascination of ocean story telling and its importance as a tool to communicate and disseminate facts about the ocean and the human-ocean relationship. The following year, I decided to share my knowledge of photography and videography and teach students to use these two mediums as a way to disseminate scientific facts about the ocean through ocean story telling.

Using unconventional tools for scientific dissemination

I offer courses in unconventional science dissemination through photography and videography. My students range from university students to hobbyists and everyone in between. The course is for anyone who is interested in learning photography and videography as a method to convey scientific information or anyone interested in using photography or videography as a way to tell a story. Specifically, I structure my teaching as follows:

  1. Introduction to the basics of photography and videography.

  2. Introduction and in-depth classes in the post-production aspect of photography and videography.

  3. A few days of practical class where I work with participants on an assignment and assist where needed.
